Invasive plants arrived in Michigan as exotic ornamental plants. Because the foreign plants are used to harsher environments, they can out-compete the native plants. Some of these ornamental plants have been extremely successful at outcompeting the native plants and have invaded the woods and forests of Michigan. Over several decades, plants like Autumn Olive, Multiflora Rose, Oriental Bittersweet, and Common Buckthorn have been prominently seen in Michigan forests. These plants prevent native understory growth limiting the movement and food resources for wildlife.
Using mechanical and chemical processes, we will effectively and efficiently clear out invasive species from your property. Our goal is to open the understory to let the native understory reproduce. Follow-up services may be required to ensure all of the invasives have been removed.
We work with Wildtype, the number one native plant nursery in Michigan to guarantee our plant reintroduction is as safe and natural as possible. Native plant reintroduction is especially important in areas where invasive plants have been removed. Wildlife forages on many of these invasives and replenishing the food source is crucial to maintaining a balanced ecosystem.
When wooded areas become surrounded by agriculture and urban areas, habitats become fragmented. This disturbs the migration patterns and feeding habits of wildlife. Habitat fragmentation can also decrease the productivity of the vegetation and produce a less desirable habitat for wildlife. Restoring habitats can increase the frequency and abundance of animals.
